Indian skipper Rohit Sharma blamed the bowlers for not being able to defend a 200-plus total. Experienced bowlers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel travelled the distance in Mohali. Bhuvi went for 52 runs off his spell and Harshal nearly 50. Even spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was attacked by the Aussie batters giving away 42 runs.
“I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances in the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but the bowlers were not quite there. There are things we need to look at, but it was a great game for us to understand what went wrong” said Rohit.
On a batting-friendly wicket in Mohali, the bowlers from both sides went the distance. However, the way the Australian batters chased the score down was an interesting observation. They never allowed the Indian bowlers to come back into the game. Heading into the must-win game, they need to address their death-bowling concerns.
Meanwhile, as per reports in Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be back in the playing XI. He last played in July in the ODI series against England. He was rested in the first game due to precautionary reasons. With India facing a series defeats, Bumrah’s return will boost the side.
