One of the strangest ways to get dismissed is hit-wicket and it is not easy to digest the mode of dismissal in a big tournament like IPL where the competition is really high. It does get into the minds of the batsman and it will not be a surprise if the batsman stands out of the crease in their next innings.
It is one of those basics of the game that if we get deep into the crease, we have the risk of disturbing the stumps. Despite the batsman in order to innovate shots have taken those risks and in some rare instances, the tides have turned in their direction. 5 Instances When Batsmen Were Dismissed Hit Wicket In IPL:
Misbah ul Haq – Royal Challengers Bangalore(IPL 2008)
Misbah who went on to be one of the best players from the country later on would have been disappointed with the way he was dismissed and Punjab won the game convincingly with 26 balls remaining. The Pakistan players did not participate in IPL after the year due to the rift between the two nations.
Ravindra Jadeja – Chennai Super Kings(IPL 2012)

The Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had a great day on the field in a league match between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers in IPL 2012. Jadeja’s excellent knock of 48 runs off 29 balls boosted the team total to 193 runs for 6 wickets. Jadeja was dismissed by Dale Steyn hit wicket by jumping into the stumps while playing a shot.
Jadeja backed it up with an excellent five-wicket haul while bowling. He bowled four overs giving away just 16 runs and picked up five wickets in the process which did not allow Deccan Chargers to get their chase going. He bagged the man of the match award and deserved it.
David Warner – Sunriser Hyderabad(IPL 2016)
Warner was leading the Sunrisers in a chase of 180 with a 52 run knock until he was dismissed by Axar Patel. He went deep into the crease and ended up dislodging the bails to give his wicket away cheaply. However, SRH reached the target and won the game by 7 wickets with two balls left.
Yuvraj Singh – Sunrisers Hyderabad(IPL 2016)
It was the 100th game for Yuvraj, and he scored a brisk 39 off just 23 balls until touching the stumps accidentally while facing the bowler. Sunrisers went on to win the game easily by a margin of 82 runs and it showed the amount of dominance they had in the season.
Jonny Bairstow – Sunrisers Hyderabad (IPL 2021)
Bairstow’s unfortunate dismissal led to the misery of Sunrisers as they could not get going after that and lost a cluster of wickets in the middle. Eventually, they were all out for 137 and lost the game by 13 runs which at one stage they were cruising.
