Just days after announcing his purchase of his dream car, the Toyota Fortuner, Indian pacer Akash Deep has faced a huge setback in the form of a notice from the UP Transport department for driving the vehicle without a High-Security Registration Plate.
India pacer Akash Deep took command of the Indian bowling deck in Jasprit Bumrah's absence and delivered a startling performance at Edgbaston. India won the match as Akash Deep delivered a 10-wicket haul when it mattered the most for India.
The 28-year-old former RCB star not only delivered a stunning performance for India in the England series, but he also celebrated a personal milestone as he recently took to social media to share a joyous moment of the player buying a new Black Toyota Fortuner, which he claimed to be his dream car.
Akash Deep is in legal trouble with the newly bought asset
Just a few days have passed since Akash Deep announced the arrival of a new asset to his family, the Black Fortuner. The cricketer took to Instagram and celebrated the purchase with a post, which read, "Dream delivered. Keys received. With the ones who matter most."
The latest model of the Toyota Fortuner, which Akash Deep bought, costs nearly INR 62 lakhs as per the Indian prices. He had his family along while bringing in the new vehicle.
However, according to a report, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has issued a notice to the LSG pacer for driving the vehicle without a High Security Registration Plate, or HSRP. He is, hence, now facing legal trouble.
What is the HSRP over which the UP government has served a notice to the Indian cricketer?
To many, it seems unknown what HSRPs are. They are specially designed number plates mandated by the Government of India to enhance security and curb vehicle theft and counterfeiting. They feature several unique elements, like a laser-etched code, a chromium-based hologram, and a tamper-proof, non-removable screw.
The plates are far more durable than standard number plates and hence make duplication nearly impossible. As reported by India Today, Akash Deep's SUV was spotted without the mandatory HSRP, prompting the authorities to take action.
The Lucknow-based dealership M/s Sunny Motors, which sold him the car, has also been penalised for having failed to complete the mandatory registration process and deliver the vehicle with an HSRP installed to the cricketer. Their license has been suspended for a month, and a 14-day slot has been given to submit a formal explanation.
Akash awaits his white-ball debut for India
India's rising pace bowling talent had an impressive outing in England as he played 6 innings in England across 3 games and picked 13 wickets in the series. His contributions with the ball were crucial, which, other than the 10-wicket haul, included the wickets of Ben Duckett and Harry Brook in the Oval Test.
However, it was Akash, the batter at The Kennington Oval, who took every Indian supporter by shock. A fluent innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, a 100-run partnership for the 3rd wicket after being sent in as the nightwatchman. Akash Deep's 66 helped India post the target they ultimately defended by 6 runs.
Despite his all-around brilliance, Akash has to wait for his white-ball debut, since no such hint has been given by the Indian selectors as of yet. Even for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, they are likely considering Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana as the third Indian pacer.
