Ashes 2023: "Australia Have Got Steve Smith Who Is More Than Capable Of Leading The Side" - Jason Gillespie Believes That Pat Cummins May Rest Himself For Few Matches

Aussies will have to start afresh in the 2nd Test match at Lord’s on 28th June. It was the match-winning knock of skipper Pat Cummins of 44 runs that took the side over the finish line. Pat Cummins has been the bowler’s captain and can be seen marshalling his troops smartly.

Australia might make a tactical change and bring back the lethal left-arm speedster Mitchell Starc as his sheer pace and angle can be deadly for the batting unit and at the same time, Starc can also play a handy knock.

England have surprisingly included the inexperienced pacer Josh Tongue in the playing 11. The speedster can be the surprise package and the decision to play 4 seamers can backfire for the hosts (Moeen Ali was ruled out due to a finger injury)

There are chances that we may witness a competitive wicket at Lord’s, unlike a flat surface in the opening Test match. Skipper Ben Stokes will have to manage his workload as the side cannot afford another injury setback.

Australia have got enough depth in the bowling – Jason Gillespie

Jason Gillespie was having an interaction with Hindustan Times and stated that he won’t be surprised if Pat Cummins rotates himself at the back end of the series and said that Steve Smith is capable of leading the side.

“I wouldn’t discount Cummins rotating himself, particularly at the backend of the series where there are back-to-back Tests. They know they’ve got Steve Smith who is more than capable of leading, or Alex Carey. They have got enough depth in the bowling,” said Jason Gillespie.

“The number of overs Cameron Green bowls is going to have a big impact. Because, if he bowls as few overs as he did in the first Test (eight), then it will put a bigger workload on Cummins and the other bowlers,” he added.
