The much anticipated Ashes 2023 is set to commence on 16th June. All eyes would be on Ben Stokes, the skipper has made it clear that they would go for results. There is uncertainty regarding Ben Stokes‘ knee injury as against Ireland he didn’t bowl.
Australia would be keen to end the drought of 22 years as the Aussies are yet to win an Ashes series in England since 2001, last time in 2019 they had retained the urn by 2-2 under the leadership of the then skipper Tim Paine.

Those moments really ignite an audience- Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes wrote in a column for the Player Tribune and said that Ashes 2023 can reignite the audience.
“I have seen what it’s like when you get those moments that really ignite an audience and even create something that goes beyond cricket. Flintoff in 05, Beefy (Botham) in 81 magical events that capture the public imagination and show what cricket can all be about,” said Ben Stokes.

I hate losing- Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes stated that he doesn’t mind losing but said that the side should look at the bigger picture. Ben Stokes pointed out that players would opt for franchise contracts for their financial security and said that we should accept the changing landscape of cricket
“Just because I say it’s all right to fail, it doesn’t mean I am fine with losing. I hate losing. But there’s a bigger picture. You have to understand that the only way you ever succeed is by having that liberty to really give it a proper go,” said Ben Stokes.
“Cricketers have short careers and I know players are going to make decisions about which route they go down based on financial security for them and their families and it’s natural. I really want boards across the world to get their heads around this, which they seem to be having a hard time doing,” he stated.

“Rather than fight against it, we need to embrace it. Yes we may lose a few talented players along the way, but the best way to keep Test cricket alive and at the pinnacle level of the sport is to work harder to show players something that excites them and inspires them,” he added.
