The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka. The two arch-rivals are set to face each other twice in the group stage matches of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from August 31st to September 17th.

The schedule of the multi-nation tournament has not been announced yet. However, according to the latest news reports, the first group match between India and Pakistan is expected to take place on September 2nd, while the second match is expected to be played on September 10th.

Pakistan have the hosting rights for the Asia Cup 2023. However, the tournament will be held in hybrid mode due to concerns raised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Rohit Sharma-led team is expected to face Pakistan in either Colombo or Kandy, Sri Lanka.

The Babar Azam-led team will take on Nepal in their first group match in Multan on August 30 or 31. Pakistan will play one home game in the event. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will complete their group matches in Pakistan before heading to Sri Lanka for the remaining matches.

Asia Cup Schedule To Be Announced On Wednesday

The PCB management committee, led by Najam Sethi, proposed the hybrid model as a solution after India refused to travel to Pakistan. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) approved the hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting four games and the remaining fixtures taking place in Sri Lanka.

The six participating teams in the tournament have been divided into two groups. India, Pakistan, and Nepal are placed in Group A. On the other hand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan were included in Group B. The official schedule is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

Salman Naseer Appointed As Director Of Asia Cup

Earlier, PCB management committee chairman Zaka Ashraf expressed his dissatisfaction with the hybrid model. However, Ashraf later confirmed that the PCB would respect the decision made by the previous management and proceed with a “hybrid model” for the tournament.

Zaka Ashraf, chairman of the PCB management committee, discussed increasing the number of matches in Pakistan. However, The ACC confirmed that Pakistan will host four matches. PCB’s COO, Salman Naseer, has been appointed as the tournament director for the Asia Cup.
