The 1st Test Match between Australia & South Africa at the Gabba ended within 2 days which was quite shocking. There was steep bounce and a lot of grass on the wicket where bowlers thrived on the wicket. A total of 34 Wickets fell where batters were at the receiving end.

South Africa would be in a state of shock as in the 2nd innings, their batters failed to make an impact and getting bundled out for 99 runs is quite embarrassing. Temba Bavuma & Khaya Zondo got starts but couldn’t convert into a big one as a total of around 150 runs would have been challenging for mighty Aussies.

Brad Hogg on Gabba Wicket

Brad Hogg was seen speaking on his YouTube channel and was quite furious on Gabba Pitch. “You can’t have Test pitches going for two days like that in Brisbane, even around the world. The most atrocious pitch I have ever seen in Australia apart from a Shield game, which got called off between WA and Queensland, which I was playing. It was too dangerous to play, was too quick and hopefully the Gabba pitch gets a rating of 0.” said Brad Hogg.

Concerns for Australia

It may look that Australia won the by match by 6 wickets but their batting struggled badly. The experienced trio Khawaja, Smith & Warner failed to make a mark. The management would be worried with the form of David Warner as the left handed batter has had a dismal Australian Test Summer so far.

Skipper Dean Elgar needs to make sure that he leads the batting unit as he has the knack of playing long and effective innings. The Proteas need a quick turnaround as the 2nd Test match most likely will decide their fate in ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 as currently they are placed at 3rd position with a percentile of 54.55.
