Pathum Nissanka - David Warner
PC: X

Australian batter David Warner produced a magnificent effort on the field during the ongoing match 14 of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka. Asked to field first, the Pat Cummins-led side were put under tremendous pressure as Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera batted magnificently well.

Australia were desperate for the wicket and they finally got it as Pat Cummins removed Pathum Nissanka. But credit for that wicket goes to David Warner, who took a stupendous catch on the field and made sure that he did something special for his team.

Pat Cummins bowled a short delivery fo which Pathum Nissanka tried to pull but couldn’t get full control over it. The ball went high and in front of square on the on-side. David Warner ran across to his left and put in a great slide to gobble it with both hands.

Pathum Nissanka batted superbly and made sure that he gave his team a strong start. The opening batter scored 61 runs off 67 balls. He along with Kusal Perera added 125 for the opening partnership and put Australia on the backfoot.

AUS vs SL: After Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera fell for 78 runs

After Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera didn’t last long as well. Australia captain Pat Cummins has led from the front as he removed both the openers. While he took the help of David Warner in the first wicket, he did damage all by himself to send the left-hander packing.

Pat Cummins bowled a fuller-length delivery that was angling in. Kusal Perera misjudged the line and got beaten on the inside edge to see his stumps shattered. The opening batter scored 78 runs off 82 balls. If this was not enough, captain Kusal Mendis was back in the hut too.

The right-hander perished to Adam Zampa as he was caught by David Warner. Australia made a staggering comeback after the sensational opening partnership. They would now be hoping to keep momentum on their side.
