Former Australia Captain and legendary batsman Ricky Ponting feels that the Australian squad is very much capable of bringing the 2021 T20 World Cup trophy home. Cricket Australia had announced its squad for the upcoming multi-nation tournament on August 18.

There were several regular names who made a comeback to the side after opting out of Bangladesh and West Indies tours earlier. This includes David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins, and Kane Richardson.

Steve Smith, who recovered from his elbow injury, was also named in the 15-man squad. Uncapped explosive player Josh Inglis was added as the backup wicket-keeping option to Matthew Wade. Considering the spin-friendly conditions in UAE, the Aussies have three spinners in the side.

Speaking about the squad, Ricky Ponting said that he was excited to see Josh Inglis in action after rightfully earning a call-up. Inglis has been lighting up T20 leagues across the world and is likely to make his debut in the World Cup.

Awesome to see Inglis get his opportunity in the squad, he’s been scoring runs for fun and if Ellis is called on it’s a great story for how far he’s come since moving to Tassie. Overall it’s a brilliant squad of players that I think are capable of winning the World Cup,” Ponting tweeted.

“There’s no doubt it’s their best preparation” – Ricky Ponting on players participating in the IPL 2021

Earlier, Ponting had claimed that the upcoming leg of the IPL 2021 is the best platform to test oneself going into the World Cup. The cash-rich league will be played just a few days prior to the start of the ICC event, and in the same venue as well.

There’s no doubt it’s their best preparation, in those exact conditions playing probably the strongest domestic T20 tournament in the world.

I’m not saying it just because I want some of the Australian players there with Delhi, but it sounds like our domestic season will be pushed back so they’ll be no domestic cricket here before the T20 World Cup, so preparation wise it’s spot on,” he had said.
