West Indies cricketer Andre Fletcher copped up a blow on his neck and was taken to the hospital for further treatment in the Bangladesh Premier League 2022. He was hit on the neck by a short delivery from Rejaur Rahman during the match between Khulna Tigers and Chattogram Challengers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday (January 24).
He was batting on 12 when the first delivery of the seventh over bounced awkwardly and hit him below the neck. Fletcher missed the ball while trying to play the pull shot. He fell on the ground after taking the blow and had to be helped to walk off the ground.
Andre Fletcher Is Out Of Danger: Khulna Tigers Manager Nafees Iqbal
Fletcher was under observation on the ground for a while and “he appeared to be okay”, according to a BCB physician.
“He is out of danger but we are taking him to hospital as part of precaution,” Khulna Tigers manager Nafees Iqbal informed the media.
Earlier in the game, Chattogram Challengers scored 190/7 batting first with contributions from the top and the middle-order. Hampshire cricketer Benny Howell top-scored with 34. With the ball, Kamrul Islam from the Tigers picked 2 for 35.
The Tigers chasing 191 to win ended up scoring 165/9 in their 20 overs falling short by 25 runs in the end. Fletcher’s injury detailed their chase as none of the batsmen could score substantial runs for the side. Sikandar Raza who replaced him as a concussion sub scored 22 off 12 balls but that was not enough to take his side to a win.
Skipper Mehidy Hasan took 2 for 42 with the ball. Raja, who was making his debut in the BPL returned with figures of 2/20.
“It was an excellent match. Everybody is really happy. We played really well in the last match batting first, and that’s why we wanted to bat first. The first six batters batted really well. The game plan was to execute and score well in the powerplay” said Mehidy after his side won the game.
The Chattogram Challengers are leading the points table with four points from three games. Khulna is placed fourth with a loss and a win to their name.
