Chris Woakes Bought By Punjab Kings For 4.2 Crores In IPL Auction 2024

Punjab Kings have signed up England allrounder Chris Woakes in the ongoing IPL auction 2024. He had registered himself at a base price of Rs 2 crores.

His former IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders opened the bidding before Punjab Kings joined the race. Before placing a bid on Chris Woakes, the Punjab-based team engaged in a heated bidding war for New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell.

However, they ultimately lost the bid, as Mitchell was signed by the Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 crores. After losing the race to sign Mitchell, they managed to win the race for Chris Woakes and signed him for Rs. 4.20 crores.

Chris Woakes has played in three seasons of the IPL so far. He began his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017. The England star made an instant impact by taking 17 wickets in 13 games for the Kolkata-based outfit in his debut season.

In IPL 2018, he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and picked up 8 wickets in 5 games before being released. Chris Woakes went unsold in the 2019 auction before Delhi Capitals secured his services in the IPL 2020 auction.

His last appearance in the competition came in 2021 where he played just 3 games and picked up 5 wickets. Overall, Chris Woakes has played 21 games in IPL and has picked up 30 wickets while also scoring 78 runs. He was recently in India for the ODI World Cup and picked up 10 wickets in 8 games while maintaining an economy rate of less than 6. With the bat, he scored 131 runs with the help of one-half century.
