Australia’s World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins had a moment with the Indian Prime Minister on the podium after he was handed over the World Cup trophy. Australia beat India in the 2023 World Cup final dasing the hopes of a World Cup win for the Indian team.
Australia chased down 241 in the final on the back of Travis Head’s match-winning century. This was after the Aussies won the toss and put India into bat in the big final. However, on the day, the Aussies were the better team exploiting the conditions to their advantage.
Meanwhile, almost two weeks after Australia’s World Cup win, Glenn Maxwell in a conversation with AGE.Com.AU recalled the moment when Pat Cummins went to the podium to receive the World Cup trophy from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was left stranded on the stage.

Maxwell lauded Cummins for his calmness and the way he handled the situation being the skipper of the team. He said that the Australian skipper dealt with the situation with class.
“It was quite funny watching the videos of the post-match presentation where he shook Modi’s hand and was stuck there on the podium. It felt like that lasted for about 10 minutes, him just standing there with the trophy waiting for the group to come on. But he actually dealt with it with class. He didn’t make a big song and dance about it, [he] just thought ‘you know what, I’ll wait here, be respectful. Not everyone would’ve dealt with that like he did” Maxwell said.
Will Forever Be Grateful To Pat Cummins For Things He Sacrificed In The World Cup: Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell was the top individual run-getter in the World Cup 2023. he scored an unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan and helped Australia win the match. Cummins had a role to play in that match as well as he scored 12 off 68 balls and added an unbeaten 202-run stand with his skipper and Cummins scoring just 12 off them.
“That’s not the way Pat normally bats. He wants to play free-flowing, he wants to hit the ball, he’s got a great swing, and he’s able to do that at different times. But for him to put his ego aside and go ‘I’m going to stick this out’, I’ll forever be grateful for things he sacrificed during the tournament and everything he’s done for us as a playing group, and me personally as well,” said Maxwell on his partnership with Cummins.
This is the second World Cup as a player for both Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins. Both won the T20 World Cup 2021 as players as well for Australia.
