India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was pleased with the way his team started in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Men in Blue dominated Australia in all the departments and registered a thumping win over the hosts.
After the win, Bumrah was all praises for his team. He lauded Yashasvi Jaiswal's excellent knock in the second innings of the match which helped India post a mammoth target for Australia, which they were unable to overhaul.
Bumrah revealed how the experience of playing on this ground in 2018 helped the team this time. Further, he also shared his views on Virat Kohli's brilliant hundred in the second innings and claimed that the batter never looked out of form.
Jasprit Bumrah on India's memorable Test win
While speaking at the post-match presentation, Jasprit Bumrah was satisfied with the way India fought back after being put under pressure earlier in the match. He further explained how the experience of playing at Optus Stadium in 2018 helped India.
"Were put under pressure in the first innings, but the way we responded after that - very proud. Played here in 2018. I remember that when you start here, the wicket is a little soft and then it gets quicker and quicker. Was relying on that experience," Bumrah said.
"This wicket was a little less spicy than the last one. We were really well prepared so I was telling everyone to have faith in their process and ability," he added.
India played its first match at Optus Stadium in Perth on their 2018-19 tour of Australia. However, they lost the match to the hosts by 146 runs despite a brilliant hundred from Virat Kohli.
Jasprit Bumrah hails Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli
Jasprit Bumrah also praised Yashasvi Jaiswal's brilliant second innings hundred which paved the way for India to reach a massive second innings total. Bumrah was so impressed with Jaiswal's knock that he even termed it as his best Test innings.
"(Yashasvi) Jaiswal has had a great start to his Test career. This was his best Test innings probably. He left the ball - he has an attacking nature, but he left the ball well and played long," Bumrah noted.
The Indian captain also hailed Virat Kohli and claimed that he looked in great touch in the nets every time. Bumrah mentioned that Kohli's poor form was due to India's matches on difficult batting wickets.
"About Virat (Kohli)- I didn't see him out of form at all. On challenging wickets it's hard to judge if a batsman is in form. He was looking good in the nets," he concluded.
Brilliant knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161 off 297 balls, which included 15 fours and 3 sixes. It was an unusual kind of knock from him as he is usually an aggressive player and likes to score runs quickly. However, he took his time during this knock knowing that the wicket was not easy.
Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli also scored a hundred in the second innings of the match. Kohli remained unbeaten on 100 off 143 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. His form is a great sign for India ahead of the remaining Tests of the series.
