'Difference between winning and losing' - Ricky Ponting's ultimate praise for Suryakumar Yadav's extraordinary 'David Miller' catch

Former Australia cricketer Ricky Ponting reacted to Suryakumar Yadav's catch of David Miller in the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa. He said that they will see a lot of catches from the India batter in the future.

While he failed to make an impact with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, Suryakumar Yadav made sure that he came up with an even better contribution that almost sealed the game for the India National Cricket Team and rewarded their second T20 World Cup title.

The final between India and South Africa went down the wire at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados and the match was completely in the favour of the Proteas team. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller seemed to have completely taken the game away from the Indian team.

In the last over, South Africa needed 16 runs. Hardik Pandya bowled a full toss and David Miller hit it straight. It seemed that the ball would go for a six but Suryakumar Yadav at the boundary ropes did something that tilted the game in India's favour and sealed the tournament.

Suryakumar Yadav just inches inside the boundary rope took a magical catch. He showed great presence of mind held his nerves went past the boundary ropes and then returned to complete the catch and send the batter packing.

Ricky Ponting while talking about David Miller's catch admitted that he didn't have a first look at it but after reactions from other commentators, he got curious about it. The former Australian international lauded Suryakumar Yadav for his efforts and while speaking to ICC, he explained:

"I was sitting in the back of the commentary box and the ball was coming straight towards me. So I jumped up and there were about 10 people in front of me. But once I heard the reaction from the other commentator, I was like, OK, I need to get a look at this on replay. 

"But, yeah, we've got amazing, I guess, clarity of mind, to be able to understand where he was, hand the catch the way that he did, keep his balance so beautifully, outside the box, back inside the box."

Ricky Ponting further stated that moments like these often turn out to be a difference and had he not taken the catch, India could've lost the tournament final. Further talking about the same, he elaborated: 

"Little moments like that can be the difference between winning and losing a game. That one today could have been the difference between me and losing a World Cup, not just a Super Bowl.  

"So, extraordinary catching. I think out of all the replays and things that came out of this final,  I think that's the one that worked the most."

The catch proved to be a difference as Hardik Pandya bowled a sensational over after that and India won the match by 7 runs to end their 11-year-old title drought.
