England’s men’s national team could travel to Nepal for a short T20I series in the future. ESPNCricinfo reported that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is exploring all prospects to tour Nepal during the 2027-31 international cycle.
Over the last few years, Nepalese cricket has gained significant growth in the shortest format of the game. They not only qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup but also played brilliantly against a strong England cricket team in the group stage of the tournament.
Nepal could host England for a T20I series
As the cricket team of Nepal has shown a brilliant growth, the ECB is trying its best to find a slot to tour the nation. It will be a historic tour if the Three Lions travel to Nepal for a T20I series for the first time in history.
“England's men could become the biggest international team yet to tour Nepal, with the ECB exploring the prospect of scheduling a short T20I series at some stage in the 2027-31 international cycle,” ESPNCricinfo mentioned in their report.
“ESPNcricinfo has learned that Paras Khadka - the former Nepal captain who is now CAN (Cricket Association of Nepal) secretary - met ECB officials in India in the days following that match,” it added.
Nepal put on a brilliant show in the 2026 T20 World Cup
The Nepal cricket team and their official were in India during the 2026 T20 World Cup. On February 8, this year, England faced a very tough challenge at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Dipendra Singh Airee, Lokesh Bam, and Rohit Paudel took the Nepalese national cricket team near the finish line against the Harry Brook-led team.
Brook and Co. scored 184 runs in 20 overs, and Nepal managed to score 180 runs in exchange for 6 wickets in the second innings. That day, the Three Lions might have won the match, but it was the team from the land of the Himalayas who won countless hearts through their brilliant display of cricket.
An agreement between Nepal and Ireland
Along with England, the Irish cricket board has also taken significant steps to make a tie with the emerging cricket team. Cricket Ireland has signed a five-year 'strategic partnership agreement' with the CAN and is planning a white-ball tour in the 2026-27 winter.
“I’ve had this on the table for discussion with various stakeholders for quite some time. It's something that I'm very passionate about and that I fundamentally believe in. The conversations have now developed and evolved to a point that I'm much more confident that it is going to happen… Multiple stakeholders will be part of that in due course, but I would anticipate that it will kick off in the summer of '27, and the precise format and detail of it will be announced in due course - I would expect in the next couple of months,” Cricket Ireland chairman Brian MacNeice told on March, 2026.
