From Sarfaraz Khan To Rinku Singh, Here Are The Indian Players Who Suffered BCCI Politics In IND vs WI Squad Selections
Sarfaraz Khan
The Mumbai batter took a dig at the selection committee after he was snubbed again from the Indian test side. The batter averages around 80 in First-Class cricket and despite him scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket, he failed to get a chance in the squad.
Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar among many others questioned his omission from the Indian Test squad. A BCCI official clarified that Sarfaraz’s omission was down to his lack of fitness and some disciplinary actions in response to his non-selection. He has scored nearly 4000 runs in just 37 FC games with 13 hundreds and nine-fifties.
Abhimanyu Easwaran
Easwaran was also snubbed from the Indian Test squad. The Bengal batsman has also scored tons of runs in domestic cricket. He has scored over 6600 runs in FC cricket with 22 hundreds and 27 fifties. He averages nearly 50 in the format and is well experienced to now make his debut in the senior team.
THe clarified that there was no communication from BCCI as he was snubbed from the Indian Test squad. Easwaran is all set to lead the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy which will be played in Bengaluru from June 28 to July 16. He will once again try to impress the selectors by scoring runs in the tournament for a place in the national side.
Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh’s heroics in IPL 2023 was the only positive from yet another disappointing season for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was the top-scorer for the side ending up with 474 runs in 14 matches. He scored four fifties this season all coming in chases. Rinku brought KKR back into the games from seemingly impossible situations.
He was very much the lone ranger in the KKR squad. Former Indian cricketers voiced his inclusion in the Indian ODI squad for the West Indies tour and also the Asia Cup. However, he was snubbed from the ODI side for the WI tour. It will be interesting to see if he is selected in India’s Asia Cup 2023 suad. Rinku averages 58.38 across 41 FC games.
Arshdeep Singh
The young pacer did not find a spot in any of the squads. He is currently playing country cricket for Kent and played a big part in his team’s victory over Northamptonshire in the ongoing season of the County Championship.
He played his last ODI for India on November 30, 2022, and his last T20I for the national side in February 2023. He picked 17 wickets in 14 games this IPL season including a four-fer. The left-arm pacer should be kept in contention for Asia Cup and ODI World Cup squads given that he swings the ball up front.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav was selected for the Indian ODI team but not the Test team. He has been a victim of poor man management by the BCCI. He played his last ODI against Australia in Chennai and his last Test match against Bangladesh in Chittagong.
The chinaman bowler was dropped despite picking up 8 wickets in the Test match. His sudden snub from the Test team back then raised many questions about whether the management intentionally dropped some players.
