Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Indian team in a three-match T20I series against South Africa starting with the first T20I in Durban on Sunday. SKY is fresh off a T20I series win as captain against Australia.

The selectors decided to retain him as the captain for the T20I series against South Africa. The series continues the preparations for both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024. Suryakumar as a skipper will have a tough job to do as he is set to take on the Proteas.

SKY spoke about putting the team first as captain in almost every press conference that he has attended till now. It is time now that he walks the talk in the T20I series against South Africa. Ahead of the first T20I, a few South African cricketers spoke about Suryakumar Yadav the batsman.

SKY is the number one ranked T20I batter heading into this series. As a T20 batter, he has excelled in the format playing some outrageous shots in a few deep corners of the ground. His unorthodox shot-making and strokeplay have earned him the name “Mr 360” in the format. He already has 3 centuries in T20I cricket and is one of the top run-getters in this Indian side.

South African cricketers David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, skipper Aiden Markram, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Marco Jansen spoke about Suryakumar’s capabilities as a batter in the format. Having seen him play in the IPL, all of them know the strengths of SKY as a batter.

“He’s not the number one T20I batter in the World for nothing. He has some serious skill, he can hit the ball all around the park” said Miller.

Skipper Aiden Markram had words of wisdom for his counterpart in this series. “Fantastic player, very experienced guy, has been playing a lot of T20 cricket so I am pretty sure he’s leading that team really well.”

The best reply though came from Keshav Maharaj who had a witty response when asked about how to dismiss Suryakumar. “Probably to get him run out,” said Keshav.

India play the first T20I against South Africa on December 10 in Durban. The second and third T20I will be held in Gqeberha (December 12) and Johannesburg (December 14) respectively.
