Indian veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh feels the mystery bowler Varun Chakravarthy is a complete T20 World Cup material — and should be picked ahead of the other spinners. Harbhajan Singh and Varun Chakravarthy played for the same franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders in this IPL edition and the former has seen Varun bowling in the nets.
Varun Chakravarthy has had two excellent seasons with the ball for Kolkata Knight Riders and it earned his maiden Indian cap recently in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. He has bowled really well in both games despite conceding some odd sixes and it is important to note that he has been bowling the tough overs for India.
Harbhajan Singh Heaps Praise On Varun Chakravarthy
Harbhajan Singh felt that Varun Chakravarthy has everything for a spinner that you need in a T20 World Cup and mentioned his abilities of bowling in any situation in the game. He also revealed that Varun needs to work on his nervousness and added that the mystery spinner doesn’t know that he is capable of offering a lot more.
“I feel that is T20 World Cup material because he has all types of qualities. He can take wickets, stop runs, bowl in the Powerplay and can even bowl in the death overs. His only shortcoming is that he remains way too nervous. I spent some time with him in KKR. He himself doesn’t know what he is capable of,” Harbhajan Singh told.
Harbhajan Singh Reveals The First Time He Saw Varun Chakravarthy
Harbhajan revealed that the stint with CSK was the first time he saw Varun Chakravarthy and stated that the likes of MS Dhoni struggled against the spinner. In fact, Varun went on to dismiss him in the nets few times and Harbhajan added that he predicted the spinner to play for India soon.
The first time I had seen him was during a net session with Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni was hitting the rest of the fast bowlers and spinners for sixes but when Chakravarthy was bowling, he had Dhoni in all sorts of trouble and dismissed him several times.
And no one was able to hit him in the nets. That’s when I had predicted that this guy is going to play for India. He has a bit of nervous energy but the more he plays, the better he is going to get,” he added.
