Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has expressed his gratitude towards the Delhi Capitals management and head coach Ricky Ponting after being appointed as captain of the franchise for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Delhi Capitals, on Tuesday, took to their official Twitter account to announce their replacement for regular skipper Shreyas Iyer, who will miss the 14th season due to the shoulder injury he suffered during the recent ODI series against England.

Rishabh Pant, on Wednesday, shared a video on his Twitter timeline where he expressed his immense gratitude towards the franchise for showing faith in him.

“Humbled at the opportunity to lead the franchise I’ve been part of for the past few years! Thank you @RickyPonting, the coaching staff, management, my teammates, and the fans for your faith in [email protected]: Let’s do this! #IPL2021,” said Rishabh Pant.

The Delhi Capitals failed to breach the final barrier in IPL 2020 as they lost to the eventual champions Mumbai Indians in the summit clash. Rishabh Pant expressed hopes of winning the maiden title this year.

“Thank you Delhi Capitals for showing faith in me. I will try to give my 100 percent everyday. Hopefully, we will cross the line this year. Delhi fans, keep supporting us,” he said in the video.

Earlier, DC head coach Ricky Ponting had taken to Twitter where he expressed his disappointment at Shreyas Iyer being ruled out of the tournament.

The three-time World Cup-winner, however, added that captaining Delhi Capitals is a great opportunity for Rishabh Pant, something he reckoned will make the 23-year-old an even better player.

”Unfortunate that Shreyas will miss the tournament, but looking forward to seeing @RishabhPant17 grab his opportunity. It’s well deserved for his recent performances and he’s coming in with a lot of confidence. I’m convinced captaincy will make him an even better player,” wrote Ricky Ponting.
