I Don’t Mind Playing Anywhere: Ishan Kishan

Swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has admitted that with so much competition for places, it will very difficult to make it to the Indian team.

However, the dynamic batsman, who received a maiden call-up to the Indian T20I squad, said that it has always been the case, and to nail a spot in a playing 11, he is ready to bat anywhere, something he has done brilliantly for Jharkhand, Mumbai Indians and India A.

Kishan, who was one of the standout performers with the bat in IPL 2020, said that he thrives while batting in pressure situations and the India A program has helped him hugely in that regard.

“It’s always difficult to make it to the team, but that’s how it’s always been. I don’t mind playing anywhere, having switched between playing in the middle and top order in my career so far. I feel more confident to play under pressure and I think the various domestic formats, India A games help you do well in that situation.” said Ishan Kishan during an exclusive interview with Wisden.

Ishan Kishan also went on to give insights on how approaches different situations while batting.

Kishan said he adjusts his game according to the demands of the game, stating that he understands very well when he has to go hell for leather or when he needs to buckle down and provide his team an ideal platform.

“How I play depends on the situation of the game and team composition. Sometimes you’re required to accelerate in fifth gear from ball one, if it’s a flat track or if you’re chasing a big score. You’re expected to get your eye in and take your team across if it’s a low total, so it depends on the situation. As a player, it’s also important to know your role and play according to that for the success of the team. But as often as I can, I look to clear the fence.” he said.
