Sanju Samson could not really deliver as per expectations in the just-concluded T20I series against Australia. The right-handed batsman played in all the three T20Is and batted in all of them but failed to score big. He did show intent and also played some fine shots but could not convert his starts. In the end, he ended the series with just 48 runs to his name.
But despite the low returns in the series, Sanju Samson is counting the positives. While he is disappointed over not scoring big but sounded satisfied for delivering what the team asked of him. In all the three innings, he tried to play the big shots right from the word go without worrying about his wicket as demanded by the team-management.
His strike-rate of 141.17 from the series pretty much makes it clear that he only worried about the team’s cause. While expressing his disappointment over not scoring big, Sanju Samson sounded satisfied over his selflessness and dominating the attack during his brief knocks.
“Obviously, I am disappointed that I could not carry on and make bigger scores. But I think I showed the selflessness and the intent the team demanded from me. Also, I managed to dominate till I got out. In cricket, even if we do everything right, sometimes results may not go our way,” Sanju Samson said.
He further spoke on the experience of living in bio-secure bubbles. The right-handed batsman was in the bubble for nearly four months. It started in August when he travelled to the UAE for the Indian Premier League before flying to Australia for the T20I series which ended earlier this month. Speaking about the experience, Sanju Samson said that it helps people connect with their inner self while also facilitating tighter bonds with the ones staying in the same bubble.
“I think every sportsman should experience that bubble feeling. We always tend to shy away from connecting with our inner selves in normal times. But living in a bubble was a blessing in disguise for me. I got a lot of free time so that I could read and meditate more and also think about my game and devise ways to improve it.
“The biggest advantage of being in the bubble is that you get to interact a lot with your teammates and forge good friendships. This time, my role was that of a senior player [in the Rajasthan Royals squad] and I enjoyed speaking with the junior players about my experiences in the IPL,” said Sanju Samson.
