ICC World Cup 2023: " I Want To See Regularity In Sanju Samson's Batting That Is Still Missing"- Saba Karim

Sanju Samson was recently added to India’s ODI squad for the series against West Indies. His addition has influenced former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim to speak about the problem that has plagued Samson’s career in white-ball cricket.

Saba Karim said that Sanju Samson’s inconsistency with the bat has not allowed him to be considered for regular selection unlike Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer. With the World Cup around the corner, India’s number four conundrum has started again and Samson is an option for the selectors to look forward to.

During an interaction with News24 Sports, Karim was asked whether Samson should be played in the ODIs and T20Is against the West Indies. He responded by saying that the batter needs to be consistent like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma in IPL 2023.

Sanju Samson Needs To Perform Regularly: Saba Karim

“Since you don’t have players currently, I want Sanju Samson to be in the XI, he should play and perform regularly so that he challenges the players currently in the team. Sanju Samson, unfortunately, is unable to do that” said Saba Karim.

“If you see in the IPL as well, he performed well sporadically. I want to see the same regularity in Sanju Samson’s batting that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma have shown this year. That is still missing” he further added.

The right-hander has played 11 ODIs scoring 330 runs at an outstanding average of 66.00. However, it is in T20I cricket that he not really flourished in international cricket scoring just 301 runs at an underwhelming average of 20.06 in 17 games.

“I have a lot of expectations from Samson because he has the skill but unfortunately the consistency that should be there is missing at times and because of that only I feel he has not secured his place in the Indian team,” said Saba Karim highlighting Samson’s lack of consistency which has resulted in him getting out of favor of the selectors in recent times.
