Cricket commentator Aakash Chopra picked his top batters for Asian Games 2023. The former India opener feels that Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal will not be part of the ODI World Cup 2023. Hence, Aakash Chopra picked both of them in his Asian Games 2023 squad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal are both opening batsmen. The duo grabbed the limelight in IPL 2023, where they emerged as magnificent performers for their teams. Gaikwad shattered 590 runs for IPL 2023 champions CSK to finish as the 7th-highest run-getter. Jaiswal scored 625 runs for Rajasthan Royals, ending as 5th leading run-scorer in the league.

I Feel Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Name Might Not Be There For World Cup: Aakash Chopra

Revealing his key India batters for Asian Games 2023 on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said he feels Ruturaj Gaikwad might not make it to World Cup. Chopra also pointed out that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ODI career has just started so his World Cup selection is difficult.

“I am starting with Ruturaj Gaikwad. I feel Ruturaj Gaikwad’s name might not be there for the World Cup. Already Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are there and then Ishan Kishan is there as an opener. Then Shreyas Iyer comes and then you have Virat Kohli. So there I feel a place might not get opened up”.

“So I am going with Ruturaj Gaikwad as an opener. He hasn’t got too many opportunities. For some reason, he is not considered as your T20 batter. The second player I have picked is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Once again his career is just starting and he has not been even close to the ODI side for the last two-three years.” Aakash Chopra said.

Currently, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are the top two choices for opening slots for the Indian team across all formats. Ishan Kishan, being a secondary wicketkeeper, is another powerful opener that Team India has.

Chopra, who also played for Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League, picked Tilak Varma, Nitish Rana, and Rinku Singh as other batters in his Asia Games 2023 squad.

“After that, I have kept Tilak Varma. I have kept the No. 3 spot for him here. Sai Sudharsan could have also been there but I have kept Tilak Varma because I feel he brings a lot more in man-to-man marking. He bowls a little as well.”

“At four, I have got Nitish Rana. If you see the last many years, he has consistently performed well. I have made the IPL the base because it is your premier T20 tournament. After that, Rinku Singh certainly deserves a spot.” the 45-year-old concluded.

Asian Games 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 are set to clash with each other. While Asian Games will be played from September 23 to October 10 in China, ODI World Cup begins on October 5 in India.

As a result, BCCI will need two different sets of squads for both tournaments. Shikhar Dhawan is expected to lead India in the tournament, according to some reports. Asian Games 2023 does not come under ICC (International Cricket Council).
