Indian Cricket Team would be keen to dictate the terms against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23) final from 7th June at The Oval. Sachin Tendulkar believes that the conditions at The Oval might help the spinners. Sachin Tendulkar was quite optimistic that the spinners would come into action and the surface too would be a competitive.

India’s batting lineup will have a strenuous task as tackling Starc & Cummins won’t be easy by any means and given the way Rohit Sharma fared in IPL 2023, he undoubtedly would be targeted by Aussies.

Australia on the other hand would be banking on the elegant left-handed batter Usman Khawaja to provide stability to the innings. It won’t be wrong to say that Aussies are the slight favorites as they have a fast bowling all-rounder present in the side in the form of Cameron Green and he can be the surprise package for Indians.

The Oval is going to be a good venue for India- Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar said that the nature of the Oval pitch assists the spinners. Sachin Tendulkar pointed out that perhaps the surface may not be a turning track but a little bit of zip off the pitch and also overhead conditions can change things and can be a good venue for spinners.

“The Indian team will be happy that they are playing at the Oval. The nature of the Oval pitch is such that it assists the spinners as the match goes on. So, spinners will come into play a little bit,” said Sachin Tendulkar

“It need not be always a turning track as sometimes the spinners rely a lot on the bounce, sometimes that little bit of zip that they get off the pitch, also on the overhead conditions and it depends a lot on the shiny side of the ball,” he stated.

“If they are able to get that drift, they can make the ball talk in the air without the pitch coming into play. So, Oval is going to be good venue for India,” he added.

India had a superb outing at The Oval- Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar said that the good memories stay with players and gave the example of a 2021 win against England by 157 runs at the Oval. Sachin Tendulkar though gave a warning to the Indian team that the Aussies would come well-prepared.

“100 per cent. Whenever you have such memories, they will stay with you. The Indian team would not have forgotten that the last time they played there (the Oval), they had a superb outing. They won the game and as I said good memories stay long with you,”

“Bruises take some time to heal. But Australia is a beautiful team as they have a balanced squad. There are guys who have been around for a long time now and some young faces as well,”

“It is a nice blend of youth and experience. Australia have always been competitive and whether they have a full squad or not, once they cross that rope they are going to be very competitive,”

Playing in County cricket can be of great value- Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary right-handed batter, stated that scoring runs in county cricket can benefit the batter and said that there is no better practice than playing practice matches.

“Of course, playing in County cricket can be of great value. Both Pujara and Labuschagne had considerable outing in the County cricket recently. Smith not as much as the other two, but whatever match practice one can get is very handy because the conditions are different,”  said Sachin Tendulkar.

“Our guys have played T20 and now they have gone to England, so are some players from Australia as they were playing T20 here but I believe playing practice matches… no better practice than that,” he added.
