"If These Enter The IPL Auction, One Of Babar Azam And Shaheen Afridi Will Get The Biggest Paycheck" - Tanvir Ahmed

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is arguably the biggest T20 league in the world. Many cricketers from different countries aspire to play in the IPL, which has historically provided opportunities for young players to succeed on the world stage. Over the years, many players from all over the world have competed in and showcased their talents in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.

Pakistani players were banned from the IPL due to border tensions after the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. Star players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab Khan did not get a chance to play in the IPL. A few players from the neighboring country played in the inaugural edition in 2008. Sohail Tanvir recorded figures of 6-14, which remained the best bowling performance till 2019.

Due To Politics, Our Players Can’t Go There – Tanvir Ahmed

In a recent interview, former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed said that if Pakistan captain Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Afridi were part of the IPL auction, they would have become the most expensive players in the history of the competition.

In a podcast with Nadir Ali, Tanvir said, “If Pakistani players go to IPL, then all eyes, be it of the players or of public, will be on them. There’s no doubt that they like our players and want to see us as well. It’s just that, due to politics, our players can’t go there.”

When the interviewer asked, If we talk about money then will Babar be the most expensive? to which Tanvir replied by saying, “Definitely, Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan. These three will get picked for the big bucks. I think if these three enter the IPL auction in one season, one of them will be the most expensive ever. Maybe not Rizwan, but definitely one of Babar and Shaheen will get the biggest paycheck, he said.

Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal played for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2008 IPL. Mohammad Hafeez, Salman Butt, Umar Gul, and Shoaib Akhtar represented the Kolkata Knight Riders.  Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Asif, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Shahid Afridi were with the Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Deccan Chargers, respectively.
