Team India fielding coach T Dilip talked about Virat Kohli’s catch in the slip that dismissed Mitchell Marsh during the game against Australia in ICC World Cup 2023. He said that the former skipper’s intensity is always high and it was terrific to see that.

Virat Kohli took a brilliant catch in the slips against Australia. He dived to his left and gobbled the ball low with both his hands. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a perfect ball that took the outside edge of Mitchell Marsh’s bat. The Indian batter reacted quickly and safely pouched the ball.

T Dilip highlighted how he tested Virat Kohli with both lateral and high catches in the practice session ahead of the match. He lauded the batter for his same intensity in practice sessions as well as the matches. Speaking in a video posted on BCCI, he explained:

“I think one of the great thing with Virat Kohli which you can always see is that his intensity level is always the same whether it’s a match or practice. Yesterday was a prime example where we are trying to challenge both laterally and also height wise up and down, so he was up to it all the time.”

T Dilip further highlighted Virat Kohli’s catch to dismiss Mitchell Marsh. He pointed out how he managed to take it despite the ball being going towards his non-dominant side. He added that as a fielding coach, he was delighted to see execution coming to perfection in matches. He added:

“Today’s catch was so special because it was going towards his non dominant side and was low. Also he was in front and especially in Chennai, we have to reach quickly. It was amazing to see as a fielding coach what we have practiced in practice session, seeing that execution happening in a match. it’s terrific.”

India had a dreadful start with the bat and was under real pressure. Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer bagged ducks and the hosts were tottering at 2/3. But after that, it was KL Rahul (97*) and Virat Kohli (85) show as the duo soaked in all the pressure and took the game away from Australia. They added 165 runs in partnership and won the match for the team.

Captain Rohit Sharma credited Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for their magnificent batting and said that hats off to them for their efforts.

“Credit to Virat and KL on how they went about the chase. That is going to be the challenge for us as a team, moving to different conditions and adapting, whoever suits the conditions will have to come and do the job. Chennai never disappoints, they love their cricket and for them to sit in that heat and come out and cheer for the team says a lot.”

India will next be seen in action on 11th October when they will take on Afghanistan in Delhi.
