IND vs WI: "Big Question In That Batting Order"- Aakash Chopra On Ishan Kishan Opening The Batting In First ODI

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra was seemingly unhappy with the Indian batting order in the first ODI against West Indies. Ishan Kishan opened the innings and scored a quickfire 52. However, everyone expected Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma to open the batting.
India bowled out West Indies for just 115 and experimented with their batting order while chasing down the low total. Kishan and Gill opened the batting. The right-hander was dismissed for just 7 as his sorry series in the Caribbean continued.
The likes of Suryakumar Yadav (19), Hardik Pandya (0), and Shardul Thakur (0) could not make much of the opportunity presented to them. Hardik was very unlucky to be dismissed and run out.
However, Chopra seems to be disappointed with India’s continuous experiment with the top order. Virat Kohli did not bat in the first ODI which also became a talking point. He said that despite Kishan scoring a half-century he has not sealed his spot ahead of Sanju Samson in the side.
Ishan Kishan Opening The Batting And Scoring A Fifty Has Not Told Me Anything: Aakash Chopra
“There was a big question in batting that whether Sanju Samson or Ishan Kishan will play. Ishan Kishan opening and scoring a fifty has not told me anything. I already knew that Ishan Kishan is a good player” said Chopra while reviewing the first ODI on his YouTube channel.
He further said that Kishan’s ODI numbers were never in doubt while also adding that the team management is perhaps looking at him as the second wicketkeeper in the team.
“Ishan Kishan was slotted to bat at No. 4, from which you could understand that this team is looking at him as the second wicketkeeper who will bat in the middle order – makes a lot of sense. However, you got him to open, and he scored a fifty. He is going to do that. He has scored a double hundred in ODIs” Chopra further said on Kishan.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Name Continue To Remain In World Cup Audition
The former Indian batter then spoke about Suryakumar Yadav. He said that the Indian batter wasted another good opportunity of staking a claim in India’s ODI World Cup squad.
“Then came Suryakumar Yadav – that’s another question. This was an opportunity for him. I had kept Suryakumar Yadav in my World Cup team but for that, he will have to score runs. “He was sent to bat at No. 3 so that he goes and collects runs, and his name continues to remain in the audition,” Chopra said on SKY.
Though India won the match comfortably, there are question marks over the batting position and roles of several players as pointed out by Aakash Chopra. The second ODI will be played on Saturday in Barbados.
