Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria was disappointed with the Indian pacers on the opening day of the IND vs WI Dominica Test match. West Indies were bundled out for 150 as it was another disappointing performance from the bowling group.

West Indies batted almost 65 overs with the Indian seamers cumulatively bowling just 26 overs. Mohammed Siraj bowled 12 while Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur bowled seven each. Thakur and Unadkat were chosen ahead of Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar.

Indian Seamers Coule Not Utilise The New Vall: Danish Kaneria

Kaneria spoke about the Indian seamers’ performance on his Youtube channel saying that they were wayward and could not utilise the new ball.

“The bowling from the pacers was quite wayward early on. Mohammed Siraj, Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur couldn’t really understand the line and length they needed to hit. You should know how to utilize the new ball. You need to bowl full with the new ball instead of banging it short,” Danish Kaneria pointed out.

Jaydev Unadkat went wicketless in his spell of seven overs and gave away 17 runs including two maidens. The last Test match Unadkat played was against Bangladesh in 2022 in Chittagong.

Ahead of the Test series, Rohit Sharma pointed out that India as a side are struggling to find pacers as a few of them are struggling with injuries. The likes of Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik are yet to play Test cricket while names like Shivam Mavi, Mohsin Khan, and Akash Madhwal are still on the fringes. The long-time absence of Jasprit Bumrah has kept the team thinking. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Sharma said:

Hamare Pass Fast Bowlers Ki Line Nahi Lagi Hui Hain: Rohit Sharma

“Fast bowlers have claimed a lot of wickets here (in West Indies). People get injured, and we have to rotate players, unfortunately. Hamare pass fast bowlers ki line nahi lagi hui hain (we don’t have a line of fast bowlers).”

“There are lots of Indian fast bowlers who are injured, so we have to manage the bowlers that we have. Our experienced bowlers could not come on this tour,” he added.

India scored 80 at the stumps on day 1 with Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 30 and Yasasvi Jaiswal unbeaten on 40 on his Test debut.
