Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad lashed out at the Indian Cricket Team after their disappointing loss against West Indies in the second ODI at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. He said that the Men in Blue are far from how champion sides are despite the money and power.

The ICC World Cup 2023 is around the corner and the India are still searching for answers. In the ongoing ODI series against West Indies, they are testing players and doing quite a few experiments in the batting as well as bowling order. But it’s fair to say that things haven’t worked out for them and have raised more questions with World Cup less than three months

In the first ODI, India while chasing a low total of 115 runs struggled to bat and lost 5 wickets while trying to achieve the target. In the second match, they rested Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and that worsened things for them as they faced a humiliation and lost the game by 6 wickets.

It was the batting that yet again troubled them as they collapsed from 90/0 to 181 all out. Their batting order was something that raised quite a few eyebrows as they pushed Sanju Samson to 3, Axar Patel to 4, and Suryakumar Yadav to 6. The trio failed miserably as only Ishan Kishan (55) and Shubman Gill (34) found themselves in runs.

In white-ball cricket India of late haven’t got the success they would’ve wanted. They lost an ODI series to New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Australia, apart from winning against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The ongoing series against West Indies too has moved to decider and it’s fair to say that alarm bells are ringing loudly for them.

Venkatesh Prasad pointed out how India have been struggling to get going in the limited-overs game and slammed them by saying that they are neither exciting like England nor brutal like Australia. Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:

“Test cricket aside, India has been very ordinary in the other two formats for quite sometime now. Lost odi series against ban, SA and Aus. Poor in the last two T20 World Cups. Neither are we an exciting team like England nor brutal like how the Aussies used to be.”

IND vs WI: Approach and attitude is a factor for underperformance over a period of time – Venkatesh Prasad on India

Venkatesh Prasad further went on to say that India’s approach and attitude is the main factor behind their underperformance of late. He explained:

“Despite the money and power, we have become used to celebrating mediocrity and are far from how champion sides are. Every team plays to win and so does India but their approach and attitude is also a factor for underperformance over a period of time.”

India notably have failed to win any ICC title since 2013. They will be next seen in action when they will take on West Indies in the series decider on Tuesday (1st August).
