India are currently facing West Indies in a match Test series. While the IND vs WI Test series looks like a one-sided uninteresting affair, Dinesh Karthik thinks differently. According to Dinesh Karthik, the Test series against West Indies is very important for Team India.

India tour of West Indies 2023 comprises two Test matches. The IND vs WI 1st Test is currently underway at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. The 2nd and final Test encounter of the series begins on July 24 at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Later, an ODI series and T20I series will be played.

India are a far more powerful side than West Indies in Tests. While India have reached World Test Championship finals in the last two editions, West Indies have finished among the bottom teams in the points table. However, veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik feels that the Test series against West Indies is very important for India. Karthik feels that this series will give chances to many Indian youngsters who showcase their strength in the Test format.

Speaking in a video on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said, “For a lot of players, for the likes of Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur – is he the all-rounder that we are looking for? Many questions are there. And for that, this series is going to be very important”.

“Here is a chance for the Indian batting to stand up and get the scores that we are all used to seeing over a period of time. As players, a lot of these names are trying to make a mark. It’s the start of a new World Test Championship cycle. There’s a lot at stake,” the 38-year-old further said on Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, with an unbeaten 40 by Yashasvi Jaiswal and 30 by Rohit Sharma, India trail by 70 runs in the 1st Test. Earlier, West Indies were bundled out for 150 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed a five-wicket haul in the 1st innings.

Earlier, West Indies opted to bat first after winning the toss. Most of their batsmen failed against India’s spin attack. Alick Athanaze scored the most 47 runs for the team.
