Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is hugely impressed by Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s batting masterclass on day 2 of the first Test in Dominica. The Southpaw became the 17th Indian batter to score a ton on his Test debut and make an impact in the very first Test of the series.

The southpaw is unbeaten on 143 and looking to make it big on day 3 as he eyes a double-century on his Test debut. He added a 72-run stand with Virat Kohli (36) as India declared on 312/2 at stumps on day 2.

Reviewing the second day’s play for Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik spoke very highly of the Test debutant. He quoted Ian Bishop’s famous “remember the name” quote that he used for Carlos Brathwaite after he hit four back-to-back sixes to help West Indies win the 2016 T20 World Cup.

“Yashasvi B Jaiswal. I think we will have to ‘remember the name’ as the words by Ian Bishop sir. I have no doubt that he is going to be a very special player. He has got the shots, range, temperament, and hunger that’s going to make him really special,” said DK on Jaiswal.
“I remember having a conversation with him (Jaiswal) in Goa during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He wasn’t getting too many runs and there were doubts, but post that he has transformed into something very special.”

He further said that Jaiswal is batting on another planet in the way he has approached this innings so far. Karthik spoke about how the Southpaw endured a tough phase and then came out with flying colours.

“He (Jaiswal) is batting on a different planet in many ways because he is very solid in his defense. Rakheem Cornwall troubled him a lot in the morning. But he went through that phase, ensured that he didn’t lose his wicket and then when the opportunity came, he pounced on it.”

Jaiswal is eying to go past Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 187 runs on day 3 to become India’s highest run-getter on Test debut. Aakash Chopra said that he is confident that the southpaw can well get to 200 on debut and get into a list of his own. In recent times, Kyle Mayers and Devon Conway are the two batters who scored 200 or more on Test debut. Both reached the landmark in 2021.
