IND vs WI: " I Got Goosebumps" - Yashasvi Jaiswal Recalls Meeting MS Dhoni For The First Time

MS Dhoni recently celebrated his 42nd birthday on July 7 and Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal recalled meeting him for the first time in IPL 2020. He made his IPL debut against CSK in 2020 and that was when he met the former Indian skipper for the first time.

Jaiswal is now a part of the Indian Test team that was named for the tour to West Indies. He is all set to make his Test debut and will open the batting with Rohit Sharma.

In a conversation with Ruturaj Gaikwad for BCCI, Jaiswal recalled how he greeted MS Dhoni with a “Namaste” and revealed that he got ‘goosebumps’ when he first met MSD.

“When I met Dhoni sir for the first time, I didn’t have many words, I told Namaste sir, I got goosebumps & it’s a blessing to see him – still I am losing words. I want to spend a lot of time with him to get lots of knowledge,” said Jaiswal in the video shared by BCCI.

Gaikwad resonated with the feeling of Jaiswal and said that he himself feels lucky to have spent so much time with Dhoni at the CSK camp.

“I feel very lucky and fortunate that I can spend time with MS Dhoni. Players are desperate to meet him after the match to gain experience, I’m very lucky to spend 2-3 months every year with him. He’s available throughout the year for everyone” added Gaikwad.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal was chosen over Gaikwad for the first Test against West Indies. Skipper Rohit Sharma said that Jaiswal being a left-hander helps the team’s cause of maintaining a left-right combination at the top.

He praised Gaikwad as well saying that the youngster has all the makings of becoming a successful batter in Test cricket.

“Ruturaj has got all the potential to be successful in red-ball cricket. He has shown us in T20 cricket what he can do. It’s time for him, I’m sure he’s also looking forward to getting more runs for the Indian team. It’s quite exciting when you have guys like these coming into the squad. It’s good for the Indian team,” Rohit said on Gaikwad.

Both Gaikwad and Jaiswal received their first Test call-ups after impressing the selectors with their consistent performances in the IPL. Jaiswal was also among the standby players in the WTC final. The first Test starts will be played in Dominica from July 12-16.
