Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra stated that the young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has failed to deliver with the bat in the T20 International matches. Aakash Chopra emphasized that Ishan Kishan will have to make the most of the opportunities to secure his place in the squad.
Ishan Kishan managed to score six runs off nine balls in India’s four-run loss against the West Indies in the first T20I at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on August 3. The left-handed batter has scored 206 runs in his last 15 T20Is with an average of 13.73 and a strike rate of 103.51.
Numbers In T20Is Are Not Looking Good – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that Ishan Kishan‘s T20I numbers haven’t been impressive, like Suryakumar Yadav’s in ODIs.
“Both Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan will have to convert their starts into big scores. Ishan Kishan’s numbers in T20Is are not looking good,” Chopra said.
“Just like Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs, Ishan Kishan in T20Is, it’s going something like that only. So if you are getting opportunities now, you will have to make the most of your chances.”
Extremely Crucial Game For Ishan Kishan – Aakash Chopra
The former Indian opener highlighted that Sanju Samson and Yashasvi are waiting for the opportunity to bat at the top of the order in the shorter formats.
“You will have to play slightly longer knocks. If not, the question might come that Sanju (Samson) can open or else Yashasvi (Jaiswal). It will be a left-hander replacing a left-hander, simple story, and Sanju can keep. So, in my opinion, this is an extremely crucial game for Ishan Kishan.”
Kishan has represented India in 28 T20I matches, scoring 659 runs at a dismal average of 24.40 and a poor strike rate of 121.81. The southpaw has scored just 70 runs in his last seven innings, with an average of 10.
India will face the West Indies in the second T20I of the five-match series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, August 6.
