Yashasvi Jaiswal has become India’s hot favorite cricketer since his Test debut in Dominica against West Indies. He scored 171 on debut which is the second-best score by an Indian cricketer on debut. His knock paved India’s victory which was achieved inside three days of the first Test.

Jaiswal was promoted to open the batting in his test debut with Rohit Sharma. He added a 229-run stand with his skipper and played an aggressive role in the partnership. His innings were designed with 16 fours and one six as he took on the Windies bowlers.

Jaiswal’s father Bhupendra in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times said that the southpaw was in tears when he had a video call with his family on day 2 of the Test match. He also added saying that he called around 4.30 am in the morning.

Could Not Talk For A Long Time: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Father

“He called around 4:30 am in the morning (IST) after scoring his century (Day 2). He couldn’t hold back his tears. I cried too. It was a very emotional moment. He could not talk for a long time. He was tired. He just asked me ‘are you happy, father?’,” said Jaiswal’s father Bhupendra.

Yashasvi Jaiswal broke a string of records in his test debut. He becomes the third Indian to score 150-plus on his Test debut. At 21 years and 196 days of age, the India opener is the fifth youngest batter to score a 150 on debut in Test cricket. He also became the seventh Indian batter to notch up a century in an away test match.

The southpaw played 387 balls in his innings overtaking Mohammad Azharduddin’s record as he became the Indian batter to have faced the most number of balls on Test debut. Jaiswal was overall the 17th Indian batter to score a century in his Test debut.

India leads the WTC points table with 100 PCT points after the first Test win. The second Test starts on July 20 at Port Of Spain in Trinidad.
