India Has Come Along Greatly In Fast Bowling, Dennis Lillee And The MRF Began It All – Dominic Cork

Former England speedster Dominic Cork feels that the reason behind the revolution in the Indian fast bowling department is Australian legend Dennis Lillee and his MRF pace academy.
One of the key reasons behind India becoming a dominant team in the overseas Test games is the pace battery of the team, which consists of the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav. Several people give credit to former India bowling Bharat Arun for the amazing turnaround in the Indian pace bowling department.

However, former England pacer Dominic Cork thinks different and he feels that Dennis Lillee, his MRF pace academy and Duncan Fletcher are responsible for India’s remarkable turnaround in the fast bowling department.

“India didn’t have that much depth in pace bowling at that time. India has come along greatly in fast bowling. Dennis Lillee and the MRF began it all. Then Duncan Fletcher as a coach ensured that India had the firepower,” Cork told The Hindu.
“I have seen them in the IPL and then developing into fine bowlers, like Navdeep Saini. With spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja and all the pacers, India could bowl any side out.”
We Don’t Have The Quality We Had Back In The 1990s – Dominic Cork On England’s Ashes Debacle

Joe Root-led England performed extremely poor in the recently concluded Ashes 2021-22 and lost the series by 0-4. Cork, while talking about England’s poor Ashes performance said that the fans and experts will blame IPL and The Hundred but there is a different reason behind England’s poor run in the Ashes. He explained:
“We will blame anything. We will blame the IPL, The Hundred. The reason is that we just took the eye off Test cricket. We don’t have the quality we had back in the 1990s when we had top overseas players. We used to have Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Holding, Brian Lara and many others. They could bat all day. I was lucky to play in that generation.”
