Yash Dhull-led India U19 team have defeated the Sri Lanka U19 team by 9 wickets in the final of the U-19 Men’s Asia Cup 2021 to bag their 8th title on Friday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

In the match, the Sri Lanka U19 team won the toss and opted to bat first and the decision didn’t favour the team and they were unable to score good runs. Sri Lanka lost some quick wickets early on in the innings and then lost wickets at regular intervals.

Sri Lanka were able to post only 106 runs on the board at the loss of 9 wickets in 38 overs. Yasiru Rodrigo was the top run-getter for the side who managed to score just 19 runs off 26 balls.

Indian Left-arm orthodox bowler Vicky Ostwal was the top performer as he bagged 3 wickets in the match. Kaushal Tambe also bagged 2 wickets in his 6 overs quota and Ravi Kumar, Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Raj Bawa picked a wicket each.

Notably, Due to the rain, the match became a 38-over-a-side contest. Chasing the target India lost the early wicket of Harnoor Singh who was dismissed by Yasiru Rodrigo. However, Angkrish Raghuvanshi smashed an unbeaten 56 and India gunned down the 102-run target in just 22 overs to seal a victory.

Meanwhile, the only match India lost in the tournament was against arch-rivals Pakistan who faced defeat against Sri Lanka in the semi-finals.

India have got a valuable game time ahead of the marquee ICC U-19 World Cup which will be starting in the West Indies from January 14.

Also, in the last 8 editions of the U-19 Asia Cup before the 2021 edition, India won 7 times including a shared trophy in 2012. India U-19 team have never lost the final of the Asia Cup.
