Delhi Capitals have reportedly written to the Indian Premier League Governing Council, asking for a player replacement for their senior pacer Ishant Sharma. The right-arm pacer has played just one game in IPL 2020 so far with his only appearance coming against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Ishant Sharma is currently sidelined with a back injury. According to reports, he had felt soreness in his back during the team’s training a day before Delhi Capitals’ tournament-opener against Kings XI Punjab on September 20. Consequently, he missed the first two matches of his side before returning for the third.

However, he has not played since then and Delhi Capitals have now asked for player replacement, according to ANI.

“Yes, we have sent in a request to the organisers for a replacement for Ishant,” the news outlet quoted a source as saying.

Missing an experienced player like Ishant Sharma will be big blow for Delhi Capitals who are looking set to make it to the playoffs after winning five of their opening seven games. Last year, Ishant Sharma had played an important role when the franchise had made it to the playoffs. The lanky pacer had picked up 13 wickets while conceding at less than 8 runs per over.

Ishant Sharma is not the only injury worry for the side. Earlier in the competition, their senior spinner Amit Mishra was also ruled out of IPL 2020 due to a finger injury. Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is also currently out of action as he has a strained hamstring which will need a week’s rest.

Pant missed Monday’s clash against defending champions against Mumbai Indians and his absence was felt by Delhi as they lost the game. The loss ended their three-match winning run. Delhi’s next game is against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (October 14).
