Kolkata Knight Riders opener Aaron Finch called Australian teammate Pat Cummins as IPL Pat for his breathtaking innings Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022.

Playing his first game for KKR this season, Cummins blitzed 56 runs off 15 balls at a staggering strike rate of 373.33. The Australian pacer scored the joint-highest fastest fifty in IPL after he brought up his third IPl fifty in just 14 balls to join Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul in the classic landmark.

Cummins also became the fastest Australian batter to score fifty in a Twenty20 game. Australian all-rounder Daniel Christian had achieved the feat in 15 balls for Sydney Sixers in the match against Adelaide Strikers in BBL 2020-21.

Cummins smashed four boundaries and six sixes, he hit Australian teammate Daniel Sams for 34 runs in the 16th over to take KKR past the finishing line.

This was Cummins’ second 50-plus score against Mumbai Indians. In one of his innings against the IPL giants, Cummins smashed their ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah for four sixes in one over.

It was great to see Pat Cummins continue that aggressive mindset batting at number seven: Aaron Finch

In a witty remark, Finch said Cummins doesn’t play such kinds of knocks for the Australian national team but appreciated his aggressive mindset with the bat.

“Absolutely, I was taken aback by it! We call him IPL Pat because he bats a lot better in IPL than he does for Australia.

“He’s played some great innings for KKR and he works hard on his batting so it was great to see him continue that aggressive mindset batting at number seven to come out and keep swinging hard from ball one and change the momentum of the game, it was brilliant,” Finch told KKR’s official website.

KKR have lost four out of seven matches in the IPL 2022 and they are currently placed seventh in the points table. The Shreyas Iyer & co will play their next match against table leaders Gujarat Titans on Saturday (April 23).
