Sanju Samson has been dominating with his recent form at the highest level of competitive cricket, yet the selectors have cast massive doubt on his technique for ODI formats. He has, hence, been dropped from the Indian ODI side.
While India needed to revamp their squad to try and finalize a XI ahead of the 2027 World Cup, no one would have dreamt that India would have dared to drop their World Cup hero, Sanju Samson.
Moreover, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in good form in white ball cricket and scored his maiden century in the 50-over format against the South Africans when he was backed as Shubman Gill's replacement due to an injury.
Sanju Samson dropped from Indian ODI side; Yashasvi Jaiswal also sidelined.
Both Indian cricketers Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the two renowned batters, have been dropped from the Indian ODI side; however, the reasons behind dropping them seem quite unreasonable.
One of the central reasons for him being dropped is Ishan Kishan, the left handed batter who has been in promising form. He has been backed as Samson's replacement due to his better fielding abilities while on the other hand, he can also be used as an opener over Jaiswal, hence giving an extra spot to all-rounders and pacers.
Indian ODI Squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, and Harsh Dubey.
Rohit Sharma's availability is subject to fitness: Is this the golden chance for Ishan Kishan?
Ishan Kishan was first brought into the T20 side as Tilak Varma's replacement and he went on to earn a permanent spot for himself, pushing Tilak down the order. With Rohit Sharma there is no such possibility, as the veteran is purely a designated opener with no scope for demotion in the batting order.
The 39-year-old's availability will be a massive concern as he has struggled with injuries. However, it remains to be a fact that he needs to star in all of India's matches before getting into the 2027 ODI World Cup squad. Hence, Kishan might look at this as a golden chance to break his way into the Indian ODI XI as well.

They are seeing Ishan as backup both kl & Rohit. This is 2 in one and good for the team combination.
