Justin Langer Has Done A Very Good Job With Australia So I Wouldn't Rule Him Out For The Coaching Job – Andrew Strauss

Interim managing director of England men’s cricket, Sir Andrew Strauss has said that Justin Langer has done a very good job with the Australia National Cricket Team and he “ wouldn’t rule out” appointing Langer as England’s new head coach.

After England’s horrible performance in the Ashes, 2021-22 against Australia major changes were made in England’s set-up and managing director Ashley Giles and men’s team coach Chris Silverwood were removed from their positions and assistant coach Graham Thorpe has already quit his position.

Also, on Saturday Justin Langer stepped down as the head coach of Australia after he was offered a short-term extension to a contract that expires in June.

Andrew Strauss, who enjoys a good relationship with Langer having played together at Middlesex, said that there are plenty of options available for England’s head coach job but he wouldn’t rule out Langer.

“I know him well and on the surface, he’s done a very good job with that Australian cricket team so I wouldn’t rule him out [for the coaching job]. I’m sure there are plenty of others as well.”

“I personally feel someone with an outside view who can check and challenge the thoughts within the dressing room is a healthy thing,” he elaborated.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has said that he does “not see anyone else better suited” than Justin Langer to become England’s new head coach. He added that the England Test team need “tough love” and captain Joe Root needs a forceful coach next to him and Langer would be perfect for that job.

“ I do not see anyone else better suited than Langer to crack heads together and bring some tough management to a group of England players who have become too cosy recently.”

“This England Test team needs some tough love. Joe Root needs a forceful coach next to him too. Gary Kirsten would be a great candidate as well but if you want one person to come in with a huge point to prove than it is Langer.

“He is an Ashes winner, T20 World Cup winner and knows everything about playing in Australia. Just go and get him,” he wrote in the Daily Telegraph.
