KKR vs DC Match Preview- IPL 2024, Match 47

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR are heading into this game after losing their previous game against Punjab Kings. Starting with the loss to CSK which was their fourth game of the campaign they have won and lost every alternate game.

Against PBKS they posted 261 and failed to defend the total. While their batters are scoring runs every game, their bowling attack has been a major cause of concern,

KKR Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate said that his bowlers need to find a way to stop the opposition batsmen from scoring runs. Bowling has been KKR's Achilles Heel this season. The addition of Mitchell Star has not yielded the kind of results the management hoped for.

Dushmantha Chameera who replaced Starc against PBKS could not do the job as well. Whether Niths Rana returns in the next match will be another interesting observation for KKR. It is the bowling attack that will be under serious pressure now in the remaining games.

KKR Squad

Shreyas Iyer (c), Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, KS Bharat, Chetan Sakariya, Mitchell Starc, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ramandeep Singh, Sherfane Rutherford, Manish Pandey, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Gus Atkinson, Sakib Hussain

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have injury problems leading into this game. David Warner and Ishant Sharma missed the last two games due to injury concerns.

DC have managed to win five games including their previous game to Mumbai Indians at home. As a team, they are also seeking consistency in their playing group and peaking at the right time.

DC's biggest hope with the ball in this game is Kuldeep Yadav who has a good head-to-head record against the KKR big-hitters. Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs are amongst the top scorers for DC and hold the key in the match.

DC Squad

Rishabh Pant (c), Pravin Dubey, David Warner, Vicky Ostwal, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, Abishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Lalit Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Mitchell Marsh, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Mukesh Kumar, Tristan Stubbs, Ricky Bhui, Kumar Kushagra, Rasikh Dar, Jhye Richardson, Sumit Kumar, Shai Hope, Swastik Chhikara.

Key Battles

Sunil Narine vs Anrich Nortje

Narine has been consistently giving KKR quick tarts. He has also managed to play beyond the powerplay and keep up his attacking intent. Anrich Nortje with his sharp pace and bounce might look to dismiss him early.

Phil Salt vs Khaleel Ahmed

Salt has been the other batter key to giving KKR quick starts. He and Narine has notched up above 350 runs in the season so far. Khalee has managed to swing the ball inside the powerplay and therein lies his best chance to dismiss Salt.

Andre Russell vs Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep has picked up 15 wickets against DC including two four-wicket hauls. He has been key to dismissing Andre Russell with his spin and will be up against him to dismiss him early.

Rishabh Pant / Tristan Stubbs vs Sunil Narine

Narine has been KKR's best bowler with 10 wickets this season so far. Against PBKS where all the other bowlers went for plenty, he went for just 24 off his four overs. He is KKR's biggest hope with the ball and will need to dismiss Pant and Stubbs in the middle overs.

Key Players

For KKR, Phil Salt, Sunil Narine, Shreyas Iyer, and Rinku Singh will be key with the bat along with Andre Russell. With the ball, the KKR spin duo of Narine and Chakravarthy will be key.

For DC, David Warner might not play the game with his thumb injury Shaw, Pant, and Stubbs will be key. With the ball, Kuldeep, Axar and Anrich Nortje will be key.

Weather and Pitch

The weather conditions will be hot and humid in Kolkata for this game. The city is experiencing a heat wave and thus temperatures in the daytime will be over 40 degrees. The temperatures will lower down to around 30 degrees in the evening. The humidity levels will be high around 65 percent.

Speaking about the Eden pitch, it has been a batting paradise for teams. RR and PBKs have won their games chasing at this venue while RCB and SRH took the game close. If the pitch plays anything similar to how it played in the KKR vs PBKS match we are in for another high-scoring thriller.

Conclusion

KKR needs to come up with a better bowling performance and needs to find ways to win their last two games at home. Losing their next two games at home might make their road to playoffs difficult. DC will look to expose KKR's bowling woes.
