While everything has gone really well for Shreyas Iyer and Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing season of the IPL, the same cannot be said about their luck with the toss.

While KKR have been the most dominant side in the ongoing IPL 2024, their captain Shreyas Iyer's luck with the toss has been a big worry for them. He even addressed the issue earlier this month following the 98-run win over Lucknow Super Giants. At that stage, Shreyas Iyer had ended up losing the toss eight times in eleven games.

"The last 6 matches in the dressing room there has been havoc, teammates are coming in and asking skip what's happening, we are losing tosses, but we are winning games that's what matters," Shreyas Iyer had said at the post-match presentation.

After that game, he lost two more tosses in four games. The other two games were washed out without a ball being bowled. One of those games was washed out without a toss while the other game was washed out with a toss. Incidentally, Shreyas Iyer had managed to win the toss for the second washed-out game.

Toss plays a key role in deciding the outcome of the game and so the KKR captain came up with a never-seen-before gesture during the toss for the all-important final against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday (May 26). After receiving the coin, the KKR star threw it in the air and hilariously spun himself around as well. However, it did not make any difference to his fortunes as he lost the toss again.

Watch Shreyas Iyer's hilarious gesture at the toss:

SRH captain Pat Cummins opted to bat first after winning the toss. While Shreyas Iyer lost the toss, he was not disappointed over getting the chance to bowl first. The KKR skipper said that his team wanted to bowl first anyway, saying:

"We would have bowled, we'll get a fair idea about how the pitch will play. It's a red soil and we played our last game on a similar surface. We need to stay with the present, stick to the basics and execute all our plans.

"Every individual is taking responsibility, this is a big game, we've plenty of people who're playing in a final for the first time, nervous, but this is also a good chance. We're going with the same team," said Iyer.

Even in the first qualifier, KKR had lost the toss against SRH but had gone on to win the game by eight wickets. Iyer and his teammates will be hoping for a similar result tonight to power KKR to their third IPL title and first since 2014.
