Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) coach Justin Langer provided an update on young pace sensation Mayank Yadav's latest injury in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Justin Langer mentioned that Mayank Yadav is experiencing soreness in his abdomen, the same area as before.

The Lucknow Super Giants secured a four-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, April 30. The KL Rahul-led team moved to third place in the table with 12 points to tally. The LSG won six matches out of 10 in the ongoing tournament.

The Hardik Pandya-led team managed to score 144 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Young batter Nehal Wadhera scored 46 runs, while Tim David contributed 35 off 18 balls. The home team successfully chased down the target with four balls to spare.

Mayank Yadav made his comeback against the Mumbai Indians after missing five matches due to abdominal soreness. However, the 21-year-old pace bowler couldn't complete his full quota of four overs. The young bowler walked out of the field after bowling 3.1 overs in his bowling quota.

Mayank Yadav Is Sore In The Same Spot - Justin Langer

During a conversation with broadcasters post-match, Justin Langer confirmed that Mayank Yadav's rehabilitation had been perfect, adding that he was bowling without any discomfort. Langer mentioned they would have a scan to assess the situation further.

"Looks like he is sore in the same spot," Langer said.

"His rehab has been perfect. He has bowled pain-free the last week or so and has looked in great condition. We will have a scan and find out tomorrow," he added.

Mayank Yadav gained attention with his rapid pace. The pacer made his IPL debut against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and took three wickets. The right-arm pacer also impressed in the next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He secured back-to-back "Player of the Match" awards.

The pace bowler's promising start to the season was interrupted as he sustained the injury during his third match for the franchise. He had to exit the field after bowling just one over due to soreness in his lower abdominal region. He missed the next five matches before making a comeback.

Mayank Yadav Had Slight Pain In His Side - KL Rahul

Lucknow captain KL Rahul mentioned that Mayank had complained of slight pain after the first ball. Rahul said that they didn't want to risk further injury, stating that he is still a young lad.

"I have not really spoken to him. He had slight pain in his side and after the first ball, he said that there was a bit of pain. Thought there was no need to risk it, he is still a young lad," Rahul said.

"It is not just the pace. This game, he showed he has more skills than bowling 150-plus. The more he plays, the more he will learn when to bowl what. Right now, we have given him a free hand to just enjoy himself and bowl what he wants," he added.
