The nominees for ICC Player of the Month for December 2021 have been announced and Indian opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has been included in the list.
Regular India openers Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill all missed a few games last month and Mayank Agarwal got the opportunity to open the innings for India in the Test series against New Zealand and South Africa.
He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and in the two matches, he scored 276 runs at an average of 69.00, including two fifties and a century.
After the first Test between India and New Zealand ended India a draw, India were looking forward to winning the series by winning the second and last game of the series. Mayank Agarwal played a crucial role in India’s victory as he smashed 150 and 62 runs in the two innings.
Meanwhile, in the India tour of South Africa, he opened the innings with KL Rahul in the Centurion Test and smashed a brilliant half-century in the first innings. Also, India won that match in a dominating manner.
Ajaz Patel And Mitchell Starc Other Two Nominees For the ICC Player Of The Month For December
Mumbai-born New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel registered his name in the history books by becoming the only third bowler to pick all 10 wickets in a Test innings after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble. He achieved this milestone against India in the Mumbai Test. Overall he picked 14 wickets in that match at an average of 16.07.
Fierce Australia left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc has also been nominated for the ICC Player Of The Month. He has played a crucial role in Australia’s dominant performance in the Ashes 2021-22 series against England. In the three games last month, he picked up 14 wickets at an average of 19.64 and with the bat, he scored 117 runs in the three matches at an average of 58.50.
