Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla recently shared an interesting conversation with MS Dhoni regarding his future in politics. Rajeev Shukla stated that he once asked MS Dhoni about contesting for a Lok Sabha seat, adding that he ‘can become a good politician’.
Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, but he remains one of the most popular cricketers in India and worldwide. The wicketkeeper-batter last played for the India team during the ODI World Cup 2019, where the team suffered a heartbreaking defeat against New Zealand in the semi-final match.

MS Dhoni, who debuted in 2004, is celebrated for his achievements as a cricketer and captain. He is the only captain to win all three major white-ball ICC trophies. The right-handed batter began with the T20 World Cup win in 2007, followed by the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Dhoni represented India in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is. He scored 10,773 ODI runs at an average of 50.57, including 10 centuries. He was named "Player of the Match" in the 2011 ODI World Cup final. Dhoni continues to play in the IPL, where he led Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title in 2023.

Fans have often wondered why Dhoni has not entered politics despite his immense popularity. Speaking to the BeerBiceps YouTube channel, Rajeev Shukla stated that Dhoni has the qualities to be a successful politician. Shukla said that it was Dhoni's decision, but the former captain would easily win.
“I feel Dhoni can become a politician,” Shukla said.
“It is up to him if he will become a politician or not. Sourav, I always felt he would enter Bengal politics. Dhoni can also be good in politics. He will win easily, he is popular. I don't know if he will enter politics, it is purely in his hands,” he added.

I Heard That He Was Going to Contest for Lok Sabha Seat - Rajeev Shukla
The politician revealed that he asked MS Dhoni about rumors of him contesting elections. Shukla added that Dhoni prefers to stay away from the spotlight, noting that he doesn’t even keep a mobile phone.
“I asked him once that I heard that he was going to contest for Lok Sabha seat, he said ‘No, no, no’,” Shukla revealed.
“It is nature to stay hidden, he doesn't even keep a mobile phone with him. It was even hard for the BCCI selectors to approach him, as there was no mobile with him,” he said.
“It is his nature to go away from fame or whatever is his nature. He is not a hermit. He does things seriously, there is no lightness in it,” he added.
Dhoni has been retained by Chennai Super Kings and will continue playing in the IPL 2025. Since he hasn’t announced his IPL retirement, any possibility of him entering politics remains a distant thought.
