Former India cricketer Murali Kartik revealed that he was touched by a wonderful gesture from India's head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir had asked Kartik to present the maiden international cap to India's latest fast-bowling sensation Mayank Yadav.

Mayank Yadav made his much-awaited international debut in the first T20I against Bangladesh at Gwalior. The fast bowler has been seen as a potent bowling option for India for some time now but his career has been badly affected by injuries.

But his moment finally came when he was selected for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. In the first match of the series, he was handed over his international cap as well.

Murali Kartik felt honored to present the cap to the young India fast bowler and revealed that it took him back to his own playing days when he received his own international cap from Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev.

Murali Kartik termed it a memorable day for Mayank Yadav and claimed it was a heart-touching from Gautam Gambhir to ask him to present the maiden international cap to the young India quick.

"What a memorable day for this Speed Merchant #MayankYadav ..it took me back 25 yrs when i received my cap from Sachin& Kapil paaji... A touching moment for me personally to be asked to present the cap by @GautamGambhir a wonderful gesture (sic)," Kartik posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Murali Kartik made his international debut against South Africa in a Test match at Wankhede Stadium. He played 8 Tests and 37 ODIs for India. Murali Kartik's last international match was against Pakistan in an ODI in 2007.

Excellent debut from Mayank Yadav

Meanwhile, it was an excellent debut from Mayank Yadav, whose first over in international cricket turned out to be a maiden. The 22-year-old was highly impressive not only with his speed but also with accurate line and length.

Bangladesh batters mostly struggled to get going against him and were hurried against his pace. Mayank's highest pace recorded on the day was 149.9 kph. As he bowls more and gets more rhythm, he is likely to clock much higher speeds as well.

Mayank Yadav came into the limelight after impressive performances in the IPL this season. The fast bowler played 4 matches and picked up 7 wickets at an average of 12.14. He clocked the season's highest speed which was recorded at 156.7 kph.

India thrash Bangladesh to take 1-0 lead

India took a 1-0 lead in the series after defeating Bangladesh by 7 wickets and 49 balls to spare. The next T20I will be played in Delhi on October 9. The final T20I of the series will be played in Hyderabad on October 12.

However, he suffered an injury midway through the season which took him a lot of time to recover. The first T20I against Bangladesh was his first professional match since IPL 2024.
