Nominees For ICC Player Of The Month Award For May 2022 Announced

The nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Award For May 2022 have been announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and all the three players are from Aisa, including one from Bangladesh National Cricket Team and two from Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.

Veteran Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim had a great run in the series against Sri Lanka but despite scoring plenty of runs he finished on the losing side. He scored 303 runs in the series and was the second-highest run-getter.

Mushfiqur smashed two centuries in the series and during the first Test, he became the first Bangladesh player to complete 5000 runs in the purest format of the game.

In the first Test against Sri Lanka, he scored 105 runs to help Bangladesh secure a 68-run lead. Meanwhile, in the second Test, he came out to bat when Bangladesh were at 16/3 and soon they were reduced to 24/5. However, Mushfiqur and Liton Das added 272 runs together and both the players reached century milestones.

Although Mushfiqur’s 175* didn’t help his side win, his performance helped him jump to the No.17 spot in the ICC Test Batters’ rankings.

Sri Lankan Angelo Mathews And Asitha Fernando Other Two Nominees For the ICC Player Of The Month For May 2022

Veteran Sri Lanka batter Angelo Mathews smashed 2 tons in the series against Bangladesh and he finished as the highest run-scorer in the series with 344 runs under his belt.

In the first Test, he fell just one run short of his second double-century as he got dismissed for 199. In the second game, he once again shined and smashed 145 runs.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando finished as the highest wicket-taker in the series against Bangladesh.

In the first game, the right-arm pacer bagged 3 wickets. He then delivered an exceptional performance in the second Test against Bangladesh as he bagged a total of 10 wickets in the match.

In the first innings, he bagged the wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque and then he dismissed the tailenders to complete his four-wicket haul.

In the second innings of the second Test, he dismissed Bangladesh openers and then he dismissed Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan. In the end, he bagged two more wickets to finish with the career-best figures of 6/51 also he won the Player of the Match for his ten-wicket haul.
