As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction approaches, excitement is growing among fans and the cricketing fraternity. There is a question mark about the future of Indian Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma with the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the next season of the Indian Premier League.
There are speculations that Rohit Sharma might be transferred from the Mumbai Indians, especially after the team picked Hardik Pandya as captain. Rohit has been associated with the Mumbai Indians since 2011. Sharma’s former Mumbai and Indian teammate has only stirred the speculation.
Will Rohit Sharma Go To Delhi Capitals - Harbhajan Singh
In a conversation with Times Now on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket 2024 auctions, Harbhajan Singh named the franchises where Rohit Sharma might play after the IPL auction. Harbhajan said that it will be interesting to see whether Rohit joins the Delhi Capitals or remains with MI.
“Yes, IPL auction this year is going to be very buzzing. It will be interesting to see some of the big names and what they do. Will Rohit Sharma go to Delhi or will Mumbai retain him? Everyone will be watching the big names," Harbhajan said.
The veteran opening batter joined the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League in 2011. He took over the team from Ricky Ponting in 2013. Rohit guided the Mumbai team to their first title in 2013. The Mumbai Indians went on to win titles in the 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 IPL seasons.
As a player, the 37-year-old cricketer has scored 6,628 runs in 257 matches at an average of 29.72 and a strike rate of 131.14. The right-handed batter has hit two centuries and 43 fifties in the tournament. It is worth mentioning that Rohit is the third-highest run-scorer in the history of the IPL.
I'm Not Too Sure About The Impact Player Rule - Harbhajan Singh
There has been discussion about the Impact Player rule apart from the player retention dynamics for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. Several players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have criticized the rule, while veterans like Ravichandran Ashwin and Zaheer Khan have supported it.
Harbhajan Singh has expressed uncertainty about the Impact Player rule. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that he would like to see 160 as a winning total in T20 cricket. Singh added that the rule pushes the score forward but misses the traditional style of cricket.
“I’m not too sure about the impact player rule, I would like to go back to the time when 160 was a winning total. The impact player rule helps push the score forward, but I’d like to see old school cricket,” Harbhajan added.
Always Great To Play In LLC - Harbhajan Singh
Singh will captain the Manipal Tigers in the upcoming Legends League Cricket season, starting on September 27. He expressed enthusiasm about the new season and added that the auction went well.
“Yes, it’s always great to play in LLC and this is a fresh new season so obviously there’s a lot of excitement. The auction has also gone well and we have been focused on which players to get for the team," Harbhajan commented.
