Former India head coach Ravi Shastri while talking about India’s performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 said that Pakistan played well in the opening game against India, however, he opined that the game against New Zealand was where the Indian team looked timid.

India entered the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 tournament as favourites to win the tournament, however, they lost the game against Pakistan by 10 wickets and against New Zealand by 8 wickets and were technically knocked out of the semi-finals race.

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri believes that India’s “timid and tentative” approach cost them the world cup. Speaking on the ‘Bold & Brave The Ravi Shastri Way’ show on Star Sports, Former India head coach said:

“Pakistan played well on that day, and against New Zealand, we were timid. We were very timid. It showed in the game. We were tentative instead of going for the jugular. You never mind losing as long as you’re throwing punches. But if you’re timid and tentative then it hurts more. And in a tournament like this if you lose too early then you’re in trouble.”

Shastri further added that the format of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 was not like the 2019 World Cup where each team plays all the others. Former India head coach feels that the 2019 World Cup format is the way to go forward. He asserted:

It’s not like the format in 2019, where you can play every opposition. I think that is the way to go forward. That format is the best, and then have the Playoffs ideally, if you want to decide the World Cup.”
