Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur has dropped a big hint regarding Pakistan’s squad for this year’s World Cup and the Asia Cup. The Men in Green will be playing the Asia Cup in September before going to India for the highly-anticipated World Cup in October-November.

The Asia Cup is scheduled to be played from August 31st to September 17th. On the other hand, the World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 5 to November 19. Pakistan is widely considered one of the favorites for both the competitions.

While they have not won either of the competitions in recent years, the Babar Azam-led side has the potential to win both of them. Pakistan has a solid all-round squad at their disposal at the moment and they can go all the way this year. Pakistan have not won the World Cup since winning their first-ever title in 1992 while their last Asia Cup title came in 2012.

Mickey Arthur on Pakistan’s squad:

Ahead of the two marquee events of the year, Mickey Arthur has hinted at the players who can represent Pakistan in the two competitions. Speaking to a Pakistan television channel, the former Australia and South Africa coach said that Pakistan will pick the players from the squad that they had picked for the series against New Zealand in January this year.

“We picked a squad that played against New Zealand. That is the squad we are going to draw from [for Asia Cup and World Cup]. Haris Sohail was in that squad but he didn’t play because of fitness issues. A couple of those guys have put their names up lately, but the squad we had for New Zealand series and the squad that will go for these events wont differ much,” Arthur said.

“We had around 20 players in that series, we just need to cut it to 15. It is not going to differ much because I believe in giving security to players as that will give clarity to them about their roles in the team. I don’t want players playing with an axe over their head or with insecurity about their place,” he added.

He was also asked about Pakistan’s concerns over the venues in the World Cup. In reply, Arthur said: “We don’t have any issues related to venues. We have got good enough squad to beat any team anywhere. I am really satisfied with the venues.”
